Niche events in B2B marketing: why “the football” no longer cuts it

Digital and print visibility alone are not enough to guarantee quality leads and conversions for B2B companies. Not because they don’t work, but because B2B decisions are rarely made there. An important key to success? An offline presence in the form of customer events. And in 2026, these are becoming increasingly smaller, more unique, and more precisely targeted. Let’s be clear: the days of renting a skybox at the football are gradually behind us.

Print and digital as a powerful foundation

In B2B, it’s almost never about impulse buys. It usually involves large investment amounts and long decision-making processes. A deal between companies that requires trust, context, and mutual understanding.

Digital and print marketing are excellent ways to appear on the radar of potentially interested customers, as they allow you to relatively quickly and easily:

  • Generate interest among a broad target audience;
  • Showcase and share expertise;
  • Initiate the first conversations.

Niche events as the dealmaker

But the real breakthrough — who do I want to work with? — often only happens when people can look each other straight in the eye. Not with two screens in between, but in real life.

And even there, we have recently seen a clear shift occurring within the B2B context. Traditional customer events – think business lunches, skybox visits during football matches, or the VIP tent during the Tour of Flanders – are increasingly making way for smaller-scale, but more substantively relevant events.

Our time is more precious than ever, so we want every minute to count when being convinced.

Small and niche works. But with the right approach – strategic, visual, and substantive – trade fairs also remain a dream way to create visibility on a large scale for your brand or company.

These clients have already hit the ground running

Many of our own clients are also feeling this shift in practice. Several of them have already set up various successful exclusive events:

  • KEPLER, a builder of progressive energy-efficient homes, organized its first B2B event aimed at potential investors in December 2025, including keynotes by real estate experts and an extensive tour of their production facilities. In just a few days, we recorded more than 100 registrations. Since then, several sold-out editions have followed.
  • Bestburo offers advanced Microsoft 365 training to companies and their employees. Recently, they invested in exclusive events where customers could discover the latest developments first. And one of their customers has since received an invitation for a high-content Microsoft 365 training session combined with a valuable company visit.

And at Expliciet, we also chose to sit down together with many interesting companies. Literally. We organized a number of fascinating roundtable discussions at our own offices with various clients and prospects from the construction and installation sectors. This not only provided very powerful insights, but we also laid the foundation for new or stronger long-term partnerships.

Shout-out to trade fairs

Are small-scale, exclusive niche events all the rage? Absolutely. Yet we also want to champion classic trade fairs. With the right approach – strategic, visual, and substantive – trade fairs remain a dream way to create visibility on a large scale for your brand or company. So, if you have the chance to make it a both-and story? Definitely do it!

We ensure you are seen and heard

For any company, but especially for SMEs, such niche events are a major asset. You don’t need a big budget or even to attract hundreds of attendees. Relevance beats scale. All you need is:

  • a clear target audience;
  • a sharp theme that resonates with that audience;
  • content that goes beyond pure marketing;
  • a setting that invites a truly good conversation…

… and of course, a strong marketing partner to guide and strengthen you in this. At Expliciet, we support you in conceiving, organizing, and following up on all your customer events. We make your efforts perfectly measurable and help build your sustainable partnerships for tomorrow and beyond. Will you be the next success story in the list? Contact us for more advice!
