Which social media channels should you use as a business?
You’re already convinced that your business needs to be on social media. But which channel do you choose? Our performance marketer Marjan explains the four most relevant channels and sets you on the path to social success.
1. Facebook: the crowd-puller for the masses
Monthly active users in Belgium? 7.1 million.
Target audience? Men and women between 18 and 65 years old. Just about everyone, then, but the average Facebook user nowadays is over 35.
For which companies? Both B2B and B2C companies.
For what purpose?
- Driving traffic to your website
- Creating interaction with your target audience
- Brand awareness
Biggest misconception? That Facebook is past its prime. Facebook is being used less, but the numbers don’t lie. It is still (by far!) the platform with the largest number of users. And so, this social medium remains worth using as a business.
New on Facebook? To regain some ground, Facebook is increasing its focus on Facebook Groups. The emphasis on connections, being linked, and communicating quickly with like-minded people is intended to breathe new life into Facebook.
2. Instagram: to be heard and seen
Monthly active users in Belgium? 3.5 million.
Target audience? 18 to 34-year-olds. Slightly more women.
For which companies? Trendy and young companies with a beautiful, visual, or inspirational product. Favorite themes: food, beauty, fashion, design, and architecture.
For what purpose?
- Branding your product
- Creating awareness
- Building an online portfolio
Biggest misconception? Instagram is mainly about beautiful images. But even if you don’t have the most visually attractive product, you can still use this social medium as a business. Present yourself creatively through employees and customers.
New on Instagram? Instagram Stories remain an incredible marketing tool for your business. You can share as much as you want without being pushy, as your followers decide for themselves whether to watch your story or not. The most recent features: lyrics with your music and a quiz for even more interaction.
3. LinkedIn: a strong network
Monthly active users in Belgium? 3.6 million.
Target audience? 18 to 65-year-olds. Generally with a higher degree.
For which companies? B2B companies.
For what purpose?
- Attracting staff
- Acquiring customers
- Brand awareness
Biggest misconception? LinkedIn isn’t just for finding new talent. People also frequently search for companies. So, make sure your company profile is up to date and active.
New on LinkedIn? Soon, as an employer, you will be able to advertise with the goal of finding talent. In other words, you put money behind a job vacancy to attract even more interesting candidates with the right profile.
4. Pinterest: the mecca of inspiration

Someone browsing on Pinterest knows very well what they want. You reach them right in the consideration phase of a purchase. The purchase intent on Pinterest is higher than on other channels. Interesting, right?
