Why you shouldn’t share posts from your business page

Sharing a Facebook post from your business page: a good idea? No! Granted, you ensure your friends see this great post. But what if we told you that—despite your best intentions—you’re doing more harm than good? Time for a little explanation!

A good Facebook post is all about reach, likes, and interactions. Because the more of those you have, the more popular the post becomes. It’s understandable that you’d want to lend a helping hand. After all, you have hundreds of friends who could benefit from this great message, right? Click ‘share’ and show your friends all the cool things your company is doing!

From one post to two

This is exactly where the problem lies. By sharing the original post, you create two identical posts that can be liked and commented on. The result? The number of likes and comments gets split between the original post on your business page and the post on your personal profile. Your personal network is more likely to like your shared post instead of the one on your business page.

And the consequence of that is your business page misses out on likes, comments, and interactions. That’s especially unfortunate if those posts on the business page are also being paid for as sponsored content…

So, what's the right way to do it for your business page?

Like or comment on the Facebook post using your personal account. This way, your actions appear correctly in your friends’ timelines. As a result, they will also see the original post on your business page. Win-win!
