Heart-hunter Alex: ‘I’m always on a journey of discovery, in my job too’

At the end of her secondary education, Alex’s school advised her against choosing marketing. But blood is thicker than water. Her passion for language and digital shaped her into the content marketer she is today at Expliciet. With a special fondness for strategy. Meet our content pride from Aarschot.

'I love constantly questioning things'

Just like her fellow content marketers, Alex manages her own versatile client portfolio. ‘Companies that choose to use content in the long term to achieve their ambitions end up with our team. As content marketers, we write blogs, social media posts, magazines, or newsletters for them, among other things.’

‘But our contribution doesn’t stop there; on the contrary. We sit down with the client several times a year, actively brainstorming concepts and formats and how we can achieve maximum impact with all that content for the target audience. I learn so much from so many different people from the most diverse sectors. In the same week, I can be writing about anything from verandas to clothing trends and from glasses to industrial packaging machines.’

A part of her job that Alex gets extra energy from is monitoring and optimizing content strategies. ‘I love constantly questioning things, analyzing which content works and which doesn’t. And then adjusting the strategy and eventually getting creative with it myself. That mix is exactly what makes it so great for me.’

'During interviews with our clients, we sit down with a subject matter expert who immerses us in their own, sometimes very specific world. We trust in their knowledge. In turn, we ask: dare to trust us in our expertise as content marketers too.'

'The trust we receive at Expliciet gives me energy every day'

If it had been up to her secondary school, Alex wouldn’t be a marketer today. ‘According to them, I hadn’t built up enough economic and mathematical knowledge over the years. But that wasn’t an issue for me. Thanks to my bilingual upbringing—my mother is Canadian—I’ve always had a knack for languages. Later, an interest in IT and digital was added to that. So I resolutely chose a marketing education, with a specialization in digital media management.’

And with success. Before joining Expliciet, Alex earned her stripes at one of the larger agencies in our country. Yet, after a few years, she still felt she wanted more. ‘At that time, my job was very broad; I wanted to focus more on blog and social media content. I had also decided for myself that I wanted to gain experience in an agency with a more personal atmosphere, but with distinct, high ambitions and clear future goals.’

‘Expliciet immediately proved to be a match in that regard. The responsibility, trust, and flexibility we get as content marketers provide an enormous amount of energy every day. And the atmosphere here is genuinely warm, very Limburg-style (laughs)!’

Standing out

How do you want to be a next-level content marketer?

‘By staying constantly driven. I like to take initiative, ask a lot of questions, and I’m always very open and honest. Sometimes maybe too honest (laughs). But by working together in an open way, you get the best results.’

What tip do you have for clients looking for a high-quality marketing approach?

‘During interviews with our clients, we sit down with a subject matter expert who immerses us in their own, sometimes very specific world. We trust in their knowledge. In turn, we ask: dare to trust us in our expertise as content marketers too. To translate that knowledge into the right words for the right target audience.’

What gives you an invincible feeling outside the Expliciet workplace?

‘While I’m always on a journey of discovery in my job, looking for improvement, I also like to head out in my spare time. I regularly head into nature with my parents and sister for a walk. We always finish with a cozy aperitif, with snacks and bubbles. On my own, things can be even more athletic: walking longer distances, cycling, or group fitness; I love making time for that.’

‘Finally, I’m also a big animal lover. I love my fluffy roommates very much, my cats Felix and Bailey. And Theo, my parents’ dog.’
