Global search ads benchmarks vs. ours: how are your ads performing?

Do current search ads benchmarks for Flanders or Belgium offer insufficient insight into your advertising campaigns? At Expliciet, we created our own set of benchmarks based on years of ad experience across various B2B and B2C sectors. Discover how we can provide you with a new, razor-sharp benchmark for your current ad(s) to fully score on top of organic search traffic.

1 year of super valuable data … and counting.

How well do you estimate the true value of all the CPCs, CTRs, and CPMs that come your way daily? As a marketing expert, you often have to rely on global or general benchmarks to accurately assess the success of your ads on Google Ads and Microsoft Ads.

In other words: if you want to correctly value your search ads benchmarks at a Flemish level, you as a marketer often lack a reliable reference point today.

  • How does my current ad score compared to similar companies in similar sectors in Belgium?
  • How does my current ad score compared to my previous ads?
  • Is my advertising budget yielding optimal returns and if not, what could be the reason?

That is exactly why we at Expliciet started working with our own set of benchmarks, based on customer data collected since January 1, 2023, and that across various types of companies, sectors, and channels.

Furthermore, our benchmark figures receive an internal update every six months. This way, our clients are assured of a valuable assessment of their marketing efforts.

Benchmarks on 3 levels

We monitor our clients’ advertising results in real-time per channel and per predefined marketing objective or campaign type (search ads, display ads, YouTube, Performance Max, Demand Gen, etc.) on three possible levels:

  • B2B campaigns
  • B2C campaigns
  • Employer branding campaigns

What (else) can our benchmarks teach you?

How can you as a marketer practically get started with our benchmarks? Use them primarily in combination with the data you’ve collected in Google Analytics 4 and from your first-party data. This gives you a sharp overall picture of your efforts and allows you to evaluate them more thoroughly.

Are your benchmarks or results completely different from ours? That’s possible, because not every Google Ads account is identical. These figures are heavily influenced by various factors. Consider, among others:

  • The sector in which you advertise and the number of players in that market
  • The advertising budgets of your competitors
  • The landing page(s) you may or may not depend on
  • The search volumes for your product or service and its maturity
  • The bid you set and the quality score assigned to your keywords
  • The ad copy you write and the way you set it up
  • The visual material you have available and its quality
  • The conversions and conversion values you have set up

Just like with any marketing assignment, it is therefore of great importance to start with a good conversation with the client or a detailed audit of the current ad account. Only then do both parties gain a clear view of the expected results. Google also provides various tools to help you with this, such as the Keyword Planner, Reach Planner, or Performance Planner.
