Put your email signature in the spotlight
Two hundred billion (splitting a number into syllables always adds a bit of extra drama). That is the number of emails we all send together, across the entire world, every single day. It’s quite a lot, of which one-third disappears irrevocably and without a second thought into the trash. It’s time to take a closer look at the other two-thirds and focus our gaze on that small paragraph at the bottom: the email signature.
Email signatures: with some, you can’t miss them; a few keep it short, and others simply don’t have one at all. That’s a shame, because a professional signature makes a great impression! Thanks to an email signature, you don’t just provide valuable information about yourself; you are essentially leaving behind an online business card. What exactly should be in it, and how do you ensure your signature gets noticed? No problem, we have 4 striking tips ready for you!
1. Keep it short
By leaving out too many colors, images, and text, the size of your email will shrink. As a result, you’ll make it through every spam filter. Simply including your company logo and contact details is enough. Be careful with the latter as well: nothing is as annoying as a long list of 3 phone numbers and 4 email addresses to contact someone—Help, which one should I use?! Keep it short and only mention the essentials of your contact details: name, position, phone number, website, and email address.
2. Inform your recipient
A digital signature doesn’t have to be purely about data; you can also simply add information: upcoming promotions, events, you name it. As long as the info is relevant to your recipient and only takes up one line of text. (Less is more, remember?)
3. Social media advantage
With so many social media platforms we are all so attached to, it would be a shame not to implement them in your email signature. From a LinkedIn page to a Twitter account, keep your customers and employees informed about your company and what’s happening within it.
4. Get personal!
A digital signature, boring? Not at all! Stand out from the crowd and make it fun by, for example, adding a photo or a cartoon version of yourself. Or play into the seasons and/or holidays and pimp your signature with some Christmas baubles!
Note: before you pull out the craziest figures and photos, you should also keep our first tip in mind here. Go for an eye-catching signature, but keep the overall look professional!
